Social Proof Thursdays: What Is Social Proof? Design, Protest & Public Life

Social Proof Thursdays is a series of workshops where we make things together as a way to leave visible traces of our values in public—a collective proof of life, care, and refusal in the face of fascism. What does it mean to be influenced by each other in generative ways? How do we shape what’s possible by making our beliefs, visions, and solidarities public? These Thursdays are experiments in showing up, making boldly, and inviting others to do the same—through posters, stencils, zines, and whatever else helps us move in public together.
Class Description:
Kick off our summer series with an exploration of the concept of social proof — the everyday signals that show we’re not alone in what we believe, value, or resist in society. We’ll unpack how social proof shapes public life, and how artists around the world use their work to denounce injustice, spark awareness, and build momentum for social change. We’ll look at examples of creative resistance — from posters and murals to performance and protest — and reflect on how art can be a tool for making our values visible and shared. Whether you’re an artist, organizer, or just curious, this session sets the stage for a summer of Thursday Social Making classes rooted in solidarity and collective imagination.
